So I’ve just completely given up on my Toshiba Satellite laptop. After a number of issues, after sending it back under warranty and being out $30 and still having the same issues, after being unable to have it function after upgrading to Win10, after experiencing the shitty build quality of this laptop to the point where the case can flex in places I’ve seen no other laptop case flex, I’ve just decided that I desperately do no want this laptop anymore. So I’d like to know which of the below options I should pursue:
UPDATE 2: After consulting several people (including sales associates and even lawyers) and contacting the original store and basically being told I can either take a $50 gift card or stick it up where the sun don’t shine, I’ve decided my best bet is to simply donate the laptop to a worthy cause and write off a hefty tax credit.
1. See if I can go down to Best Buy or another store and trade it on for credit on a new laptop, and buy a laptop that isn’t shit with whatever money I can scrape together or even get a fucking bank loan if I have to
UPDATE: I got in touch with my local Best Buy and they told me the trade-in value is a $25 gift card. At that point I think it’s just worth as much to just toss it into the middle of the street and see how much local traffic will run over it until the neighbors complain and demand I clean the mess up.
2. Just outright sell it and pocket the money, and just live without a laptop and just scrape up and save cash for a decent laptop when I can finally afford one, and either use desktops or do what everyone else in the 21st century is doing and use my phone instead
3. Same as 2 except stick with the shitty laptop (at that point it will become an almost pure web streaming/porno machine as I certainly as hell won’t take it anywhere anymore)
4. Actually my preferred option - I don’t know if it’s even possible but I’d like to know if I can do some sort of “lemon” buyback deal.

1) Toshiba’s are terrible (speaking from experience)
2) if it looks like it functions long enough for a BB rep to look it over then I’d trade it in
3) get a BB credit card and pay it off over a few months rather than all at once (added benefit of adding good credit yay)
4) don’t buy another Toshiba, even if it sounds nice, they are terrible. Instead look to ASUS or HP. This is my opinion based on items my family, friends and I have owned.
Good luck!

So you want a computer that lasts, right? Get a refurbished Mac - they’re expensive, but are worth it.

Avoid Lenovo Thinkpads. I have one that is so crappy I couldn’t pay you to take it. Go with a MacBook - you’ll never regret it.

Good to see Toshiba’s quality is as shit as it’s always been.
I say this to everyone to asks what laptop they should look at. If you’re buying new, the 700-900 dollar range is the sweet spot for performance and build quality. If you want a cheap web/porno machine but isn’t good at much of anything else, find a nice Chromebook. I personally hate those fucking things, but they might be just what you’re looking for in your current situation.

I can’t recommend Lenovo anymore. Between the whole Superfish adware fiasco, and the fact they’ve just been recently caught embedding Lenovo Services inside of the UEFI firmware partition to force their software onto even fresh installs of Windows 7 and 8, I’ve lost all trust I once had in that company.

People saying “go with a macbook” clearly don’t understand what budget means.
What do you use the computer for? I mean, what kind of programs and work do you do on it, other than the internet?
What’s your actual budget. I pride myself in finding electronics at a good price online, I like a challenge lol

Depends how far back you go, if you were to buy an enterprise class laptop from two generations ago you can avoid the embedded Lenovo services, think first gen i5 & i7 t510-w series

See what a pawn shop would give you for it. They sell used laptops at ridiculous prices. I bet they will give you more than $25.

You’ve got to get a MacBook. I have a great MacBook Pro that was quite expensive, but it will last me another 10 years. Had it for three or so now and it’s working as good as the day I bought it.*
*I spilled a glass of water straight over the keyboard the day I bought it. Tipping it upside down & using a hairdryer fixed that, still haven’t had any problems from it.

Which model do you have? I’ve got a fairly low budget model, and besides the obviously cheaped out screen (they ran out of the non-touchscreen higher resolution panels in the options) and slightly heavier weight for its size, I’ve been doing well with it so far...

Neither of those mentioned above affected Thinkpads, just the standard Lenovos. IIRC Thinkpads are still created separately, although it is the company’s ethics which is questionable at times.

Not bashing on Macs, but that statement is funny. Want a computer that lasts? Buy a refurbished Mac. It was refurbished because it lasted?
I know there are other reasons a computer would be refurbished, just got a chuckle out of it.

Sorry to hear about your situation. If you’re looking for a laptop on a budget, check woot.com. Right now that have some really nice dell (enterprise level) laptops.
If you are fairly tech savy, I would go for something older that has a decent chip/board (something intel and dual core at least) then upgrade the HD to an SSD, and get some more memory. I would also recommend a clean install of whatever OS you decide to use.
People that are touting IBM/Lenovo thinkpads are right, they are workhorses! I’ve got one from 2006 that I have put an SSD and some extra memory in, it runs faster and with less problems that some computers that were purchased only a few months ago.
If you’re not into doing all that tech BS that I mentioned, Scour woot, and other refurb deals. Look for something with an intel chip (steer clear of AMD chips, for they are junk), at least 4gig RAM, and whatever OS you prefer. Enterprise/business level PC’s are the best way to go if you don’t need fancy graphics.

Well considering that the OP says that there’s a lack of money involved here, a refurbished one would be cheaper and still has a warranty.

I use iMac for home and MacBook Pro for work. Many of my coworkers use the Air and love it. The regular MacBook is also a good option if you don't have the budget for the others. My laptop is Retina - and I can tell you - it is so much better to look at. If you can afford it - get a Retina.

Whoops, I was referring to the thinkpads, but that was interesting nonetheless. I find it intriguing how Macs are starting to become the Coporate and University go to.
